Third PCA Singapore Vis Pre-Moot and Fifth PCA Buenos Aires Vis Pre-Moot

On 28-29 February 2024 and 29 February-1 March 2024, the offices of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in Buenos Aires and Singapore, respectively, hosted practice moot rounds at the San Martín Palace and Maxwell Chambers for the 31st Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and the 21st Vis East Moot.

During the PCA Singapore and Buenos Aires Vis Pre-Moots, each team had the chance to plead before tribunals composed of international arbitration specialists from various jurisdictions and legal backgrounds. The teams received detailed feedback on their pleadings in order to assist their preparation for the Vis East Moot which commenced on 10 March 2024, and the Vis Moot, which commences on 22 March 2024.

1. The following eight teams attended the Singapore edition:

  • China-EU School of Law at the China University of Political Science and Law
  • International Islamic University Malaysia
  • National Law University, Jodhpur
  • National University of Singapore
  • Shanghai University of Finance and Economics
  • Singapore Management University
  • Universitas Gadjah Mada
  • Wuhan University

The teams with the highest average total scores were National Law University, Jodhpur, Singapore Management University, and Wuhan University. The oralists with the highest scores were Ananya Jaria, Erica Wee, and Disha Gandhi.

2. The following teams, from five different countries, attended the 2024 edition of the PCA Buenos Aires Vis Pre-Moot:

  • McGill University
  • Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile
  • Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo
  • Universidad de Buenos Aires
  • Universidade Federal do Paraná
  • Universidad de Montevideo
  • Universidad Nacional de Rosario – UNR

After five rounds, the team with the highest average total score was Universidad de Buenos Aires. The runner-up was Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, while Universidad de Montevideo placed third. The oralist with the highest score was Joaquín Emens from the Universidad de Buenos Aires.
