Arbitration and National Courts: Conflict and Cooperation
Houston, May 13-14, 2010 - Four Seasons Hotel
The Permanent Court of Arbitration, located in The Hague, the Houston International Arbitration Club, Inc., and the University of Texas School of Law will host Arbitration and National Courts: Conflict and Cooperation on May 13-14 in Houston, Texas. The program builds on 2009’s international arbitration conference at The Hague, and brings together an internationally-renowned faculty in a conference focused on the role of arbitrators and the courts. This conference returns to The Hague in May 2011.
The 2010 program features keynote presenters Lord Leonard H. Hoffmann of Chadwick, Retired Law Lord, Brick Court Chambers, London, U.K., speaking on conflicts between arbitrators and national judiciaries, and Mariano Gomezperalta Casali, General Counsel for Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of the Economy, Mexico City, Mexico, speaking on representation of state parties in investment arbitration. The program includes major presentations dealing with: Injunctions in Favor of and Against Arbitration; The Second Look Doctrine: Twenty-Five-Plus Years after Mitsubishi; Argentine Impasse: Enforcing Awards Against State Parties; Escaping National Court Review: ICSID Annulment; and additional presentations and panels. International Law Seminars
The PCA hosted seven International Law Seminars between 1999 to 2003, with the proceedings of each published in the seven-volume Peace Palace Papers series.
