The PCA’s Secretary-General, Mr. Tjaco van den Hout, received Mr. Yvo de Boer, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), on May 22, 2008.

The two discussed, among other things, the PCA’s role in providing dispute-resolution services to diverse actors within the international climate-change regime and various opportunities for increasing cooperation between the two organizations. The Secretary-General noted that the PCA’s case-management expertise, gained through its century-plus activity of administering arbitrations and other dispute-resolution procedures, could be valuable to bodies serving the Kyoto Protocol mechanisms. Future meetings between staff of the International Bureau and the UNFCCC Secretariat are anticipated.
