Abyei Arbitration

The Parties have now filed three rounds of written submissions in the arbitration between the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement concerning the delimitation of the Abyei Area pursuant to an Arbitration Agreement deposited with the PCA on July 11, 2008.


In accordance with the schedule established by the Tribunal at a preliminary procedural meeting in The Hague on November 24, 2008, the Parties filed their Memorials on December 18, 2008, Counter-Memorials on February 13, 2008, and Rejoinders on February 28, 2009. Pursuant to the Parties’ Agreement, the pleadings are available for download from the PCA website.


Oral pleadings will take place at the Peace Palace in The Hague from Saturday, April 18 through Thursday, April 23, 2009. Details about the hearings, including media and public attendance, can be found in the Abyei Arbitration section of the PCA website.
