New PCA General Counsel - September 2007

Mr. Maurizio Brunetti, Deputy-Secretary General of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal, will join the PCA as General Counsel on November 1, 2007. Mr. Brunetti, a Swiss national, has served as Deputy-Secretary General of the Iran-United States Tribunal since 1995. In that role he has acted as adviser to the Tribunal’s Presidents in relation to its procedure, hearings and deliberations, and has administered many Tribunal cases including disputes involving states or state-controlled entities and concerning, in particular, expropriations, international commercial contracts, investment disputes, bilateral investment treaties, and treaty interpretation. He also assisted the Tribunal’s Secretary-General in administrative matters and the Tribunal’s relations with the Kingdom of the Netherlands as the host state. Prior to joining the Tribunal, Mr. Brunetti was an associate of a major Swiss law firm, where he acted as attorney-at-law and civil-law notary.

 

The PCA’s Secretary-General, Mr. Tjaco van den Hout, has stated that Mr. Brunetti’s wealth of institutional experience will further strengthen the PCA’s ability to respond to the growing dispute resolution needs of its member states.
