The Permanent Court of Arbitration received the inaugural award for "institution of the year" from Global Arbitration Review (GAR) on March 3rd, 2011. PCA Secretary-General Christiaan Kröner accepted the award in person at a ceremony held in Seoul, South Korea. Among the distinguished institutions in contention for the award, the PCA was said to be the only institution to receive "absolutely universal, unqualified praise" from arbitration users.
